The ASIA group at the University of Jaén has been awarded one of Fundación ASISA's grants to develop AIgentiCARE, an artificial intelligence project for the early detection of clinical and cognitive deterioration in older people.
Fundación ASISA announced the proposals selected in its first call to support research and social projects at a ceremony held at the Palacio de los Duques de Santoña in Madrid. Of the ten initiatives recognised, AIgentiCARE is one of the five projects chosen in the health research category.
Led by Full Professor Macarena Espinilla Estévez, principal investigator and head of the ASIA group, the project will develop and validate, in a real care setting, an intelligent assistant for care professionals. Using the information recorded every day about each resident, the system will generate clinical summaries, prioritised alerts and recommendations that support decision-making.
The aim is to move towards more preventive and personalised care that can anticipate risk situations. As the principal investigator puts it, the goal is not to produce more data or more alarms, but to interpret the information already available and help staff act sooner.
To achieve this, AIgentiCARE will combine rules and models that identify and prioritise potential incidents with natural language generation techniques, and will move towards AI agents able to integrate information from different sources and offer a concise picture of each person. The technology does not replace professional judgement: it seeks to reduce alarm fatigue and free up time for direct care.
This award strengthens the ASIA group's line of research in artificial intelligence, digital health, language models and intelligent agents.
